Tektronix Simplifies DDR2 Testing with New Solution for TLA6000 Series Logic Analyzers

Industry’s Only Mid-Range Logic Analyzer DDR2 Debug and Validation Solution Includes Complete Tool Set - from Probing to Analysis Software

Beaverton, Ore., April 5, 2011 -Tektronix, Inc., a leading worldwide provider of test, measurement and monitoring instrumentation, today announced availability of a complete DDR2 protocol debug and validation solution for the award-winning TLA6000 Series Logic Analyzers. The new options for the TLA6000 Series consist of everything embedded engineers - even those who are not DDR2 experts - need to validate and debug the operation of memory sub-systems in their designs.

DDR2 memory systems are used in many of today’s embedded designs - commonly implemented as a bus on the microprocessor or as a block in an FPGA. The complexity of the DDR2 protocol and the number of command/data/address signals make it difficult to both visualize the operation of the bus and to isolate any potential problems. In addition, designers need to ensure that signal timing and interfaces comply with JEDEC standards. The new DDR2 options for the TLA6000 Series meet the emerging need for a more complete, easier to user DDR2 test solution at a more affordable price point.

"These options will significantly boost productivity for engineers tasked with validation and debug of DDR2 in embedded designs while lowering costs by bringing these capabilities to our mid-range logic analyzers," said Dave Farrell, director, Logic Analyzer Product Line, Tektronix. "Users don’t need to be a DDR2 expert to get expert-level results since the included software translates the raw captured data into meaningful DDR2 bus transaction views, and finds and reports protocol violations automatically."

The new options for the TLA6000 Series consists of a set of tools designed to provide visibility to all address, data, and control signals. The bundle includes:

Memory chip interposers that provide a convenient way of probing embedded DDR memory systems and eliminates the need to design in probe access points. These memory chip interposers work with the unique iCapture Analog Mux feature of the TLA6000 to provide a single probing solution for both the logic analyzer and oscilloscope, saving time and minimizing setup complexity.

Protocol decode software that shows all of the DDR2 transactions as well as providing triggering on DDR2 events.

Sample point analysis software that automates the process of correctly configuring the TLA6000 Series to accurately sample the DDR2 signals.

Protocol violation software that finds and reports any violation of the JEDEC-defined DDR2 protocol.

"This DDR2 solution provides fast and smart analysis capabilities for debug and validation engineers. When coupled with Tektronix logic analyzers’ deep memory, powerful triggering, and cross-bus correlation capabilities, these new options for the TLA6000 give engineers the best tools in the industry for embedded memory debug and validation," said Rob Shelsky, President, Nexus Technology, Inc.

Pricing & Availability
The new DDR2 option for the TLA6000 Series will be available globally beginning April 2011. Pricing starts at $9,110 U.S. MSRP for the DDR2 Protocol Debug and Validation Toolkit.

Announcing World's First Serial RapidIO Gen2 Protocol Analyzer

Nexus Technology Inc. has today announced a comprehensive Serial RapidIO Solution for both Gen 1 and Gen 2. The solution includes a protocol analyzer that enables non intrusive monitoring and analysis of the target system from the physical coding-sublayer to full-duplex link protocol, as well as a generator for stimulus injection at all speeds of Serial RapidIO up to 6.25Gbps.

The NEX-SRIO2 receiver enables acquisition of x4/x2/x1, full-duplex mode links using a Tektronix Logic Analyzer. The Serial RapidIO data is automatically descrambled, decoded and aligned for easy debug and analysis. Real-time error checking capabilities provided by NEX-SRIO2 allow the user to quickly root-cause system level failures.

Real time filtering capability can be used to filter out IDLE sequences and other type of packets to more efficiently capture and store data. This allows the user to capture an event of interest as well as the conditions that resulted in the occurrence of that event on the Serial RapidIO bus.

The NEX-SRIO2 transmitters generate SRIO packets, control symbols and 8b/10b characters in x4/x2/x1 mode. This product also supports generation of proper idle sequences, injection of disparity errors and lane skew. It can also optionally loop on a predefined pattern up to 64k Symbols.

These transmitters allow the testing of Serial RapidIO receivers on the users system for different link conditions and error recovery on occurrence of different types of link errors. it can also be used as a substitute for the Serial RapidIO transmitter on the users system to quickly recreate infrequent events and test the system response.

"Nexus Technology’s second generation of Serial RapidIO analyzers provides fast and smart analysis capabilities for debug and validation engineers. When coupled with the Tektronix logic analyzer’s deep memory, powerful triggering, and cross-bus correlation capabilities, our customers have the best tools in the industry for complete system debug and validation," said Rob Shelsky, President, Nexus Technology, Inc.

"Tektronix is pleased that our relationship with Nexus Technology continues to bring to market solutions that meet the debug and validation needs of engineers working with advanced serial technologies. The Serial RapidIO (SRIO) Gen2 Protocol Analyzer coupled with a Tektronix Logic Analyzer provides a complete debug solution for next generation Serial RapidIO designs." said Mike Rizzo, Director of Marketing, Tektronix Logic Analyzer Product Line.

Before module reduction, the Tektronix logic analyzer required four TLA7BB4 logic analyzer modules for full analysis of DDR3 at speeds of DDR3-1600 and DDR3-1867 and two TLA7BB4 modules for full analysis of DDR3 at speeds of DDR3-1333 and slower. With the introduction of module reduction techniques, the number of logic analyzer modules was reduced from four to two for DDR3-1600 & DDR3-1867 and from two to one for DDR3-1333 and slower. This reduction is derived completely in software by customizing the analyzer's internal resources in a unique and proprietary way. All logic analyzer features available to the end user are completely preserved with no feature limitations. The following facts on software module reduction may be of interest.

Facts About Software Module Reduction (MR) Technology(TM)
1. Module reduction software is completely transparent to the user. There are absolutely no special settings or choices required to use module reduction. Data is displayed correctly without any added intervention by the user.

2. SODIMM acquisition is NEVER effected by module reduction. Data is acquired and viewable - simultaneously - from each rank for every possible state of the DDR3 bus. To put it another way, there is absolutely no penalty for using module reduction with your SODIMM target.

3. DIMM acquisition is NEVER effected by module reduction for single and dual rank DIMMs. Just as with the SODIMMs, data is acquired and viewable - simultaneously - for each rank. Again, there is absolutely no penalty for using module reduction with your single or dual rank targets and DIMMs.

4. Are you working with power down states in a quad rank DIMM? Probably not, but if you are, please give us a call as there are unique challenges in this environment.

5. No qualifier sideband signals are required which would otherwise force double-probing and increase the load on the DDR3 target.

6. If you already own a Nexus interposer, module reduction can be implemented with a software update.

Nexus Technology has a family of products for your DDR3 debug application offering high speed connection and data analysis. From DDR3 interposers, NEXVu validation DIMMs (VDIMMS), embedded supports, chip interposers, to protocol violation software, Nexus Technology has the DDR3 product line to fully support your needs.

Nexus Technology Announces DDR3-1867 Family of Digital & Analog Validation Products

"Nexus Technology, Inc., a leading provider of digital & analog validation products for DDR3, announces the industry’s first DDR3-1867 DIMM & embedded DDR3 memory design, debug, & validation products for use with Tektronix logic analyzers & oscilloscopes"

Nexus Technology today introduced Tektronix support for DDR3-1867 DIMM and embedded acquisition. This release provides the industry’s most robust and complete digital and analog validation platform for DDR3 using TLA7000 logic analyzers, DPO/DSA70000B & DPO7000 oscilloscopes, the NEX-DDR3INTR-HS DDR3 DIMM slot interposer, DDR3 NEXVu VDIMMs, or DDR3 component interposers.

The DDR3 standard supports data rates from 800- to 1867-MT/s with clock frequencies from 400- to 933MHz. DDR3 is ideal for high-performance applications such as file servers, video-on-demand, encoding and decoding, gaming, and 3D visualization.

Nexus Technology’s DDR3-1867 NEX-DDR3INTR-HS DIMM slot interposer allows for easy testing and digital validation of different DDR3 DIMMs. Nexus Technology’s DDR3-1867 NEXVu VDIMM provide non-intrusive probing and the industry's lowest DIMM acquisition BER (bit-error-ratio) allowing the VDIMMs to work in the widest possible range of targets - minimizing customer risk during first power-ons and debug. Nexus Technology’s DDR3-1867 component interposers provide easy access to the DDR signals for use in embedded designs and can be easily swapped between logic analyzer and oscilloscope component interposers for flexible, extremely accurate, and reliable digital and analog validation. Multiple component interposers can be used as one acquisition system to rebuild up to a 32-bit DDR3 data bus. All of these products come with the industry's fastest and easiest setup software - DDR3 SPA threshold & sample point analyzer. Also available for these products is the DDR3 Protocol Violation software, providing proven modeling and error reporting of DDR3 protocol.

"DDR is pervasive. From small hand-held devices through large scale computer servers, Nexus’ family of products provide complete support from individual memory component analysis in embedded applications through multi-DIMM unbuffered, registered, or SMI analysis in servers," said Robert Shelsky, President Nexus Technology, Inc.

All interposers are available for immediate delivery.

Additional information on these products can be found at www.nexustechnology.com.
